Sunday Worship
We have two services on Sunday, at
We aim to be welcoming and contemporary, meeting together in the name of our
Lord Jesus Christ to worship and pray to God, to enjoy Christian fellowship
with one another, to learn from his word, to build up believers and to
challenge those who are seeking faith.
Preaching in Surrey Chapel is expository – that is, the preacher opens up
a passage of God’s word, The Bible, and explains the meaning and how it applies
to our everyday 21st century lives. Our Pastors, Tom Chapman and Jason
Griffiths, share the majority of the preaching, usually working consecutively
through a book or a section of a book from The Bible. The remainder of the
preaching is undertaken by other elders in the church, other members developing
a preaching ministry and occasional visiting speakers such as mission
representatives.
In our worship we aim for the balance between joy and reverence that is
exemplified in Psalm 95:
"Come, let us sing for joy to
the Lord … Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music
and song … Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our
Maker, for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under
his care." (NIV)
There is plenty of
variety in our music in worship, with a mixture of both traditional hymns and
more contemporary songs.
Communion is usually
included in the evening service on the first and third Sundays in the month,
and in the morning service on the other Sundays. All who have a personal faith in
the Lord Jesus Christ are welcome to share in Communion. Sunday services
normally run for about 75 minutes when there is no Communion, and for about 90
minutes when there is.
