Anglia Square development
Surrey Chapel is very close to the Anglia Square Shopping Centre. Plans are now well advanced
for major development for this area, including demolition of the unused old
HMSO building alongside the Chapel. The developers’ plans include the Surrey
Chapel site. The church faces a significant decision fairly soon: whether to
stick it out where we are, to accept the offer of the developers to help to
relocate us on a site in Edward Street, just north of Anglia Square, or to move
to another part of the City. The church is seeking the Lord’s guidance and
provision as we look to determine where our future lies. Currently the
developers are still awaiting planning consent. The
developers are hoping that the application will be determined by late summer. Norwich City Council remains committed to the rejuvenation of the square.
New Pastor at Saxlingham Nethergate
Chapel
On 10 January, at 2 pm, the Saxlingham Chapel
will be inducting Ian Masson as their Pastor. This is an exciting time for
this small village Chapel, which has seen expansion of both their congregation
and their building over recent months. Surrey Chapel has had a long
association with the Chapel at Saxlingham Nethergate, which was set up over a
hundred years ago during the ministry of the first Pastor of Surrey Chapel,
Robert Govett. It is the intention of the Surrey Chapel leadership, with
our experience of employing pastoral staff, to offer practical and financial
help to the Chapel at Saxlingham as they move forward into the appointment of a
full-time pastor.
Surrey Chapel Gathering Sunday
On the recommendation of the eldership, the
members have agreed that 27 September 2009 will be Surrey Chapel Gathering
Sunday. As well as celebrating the gathering of the Harvest, we will
gather together as a local church, to reaffirm our commitment to our Lord, to
one another and to serving God in this church. Everyone who regards Surrey
Chapel as their church is encouraged to plan their diaries for 2009 so that they
can be present for the Gathering Sunday.
Refresh: New Songs Workshop
On 25 January at 4 pm the Surrey Chapel band
will lead a time of informal praise and worship for anyone who wants to come
along and learn some new Christian songs. Tea and cake will be provided as
an added incentive! More details from Alison Howell.
